Property Description

Wow! Own your Portion of Cherokee Land (40.00 ACRES). Grab a unique opportunity to own land rich in gold rush history. The land consists of two parcels totaling 40.00 Acres of property. This land offers utilities with a well already installed for your water, a nice entrance gate for access, a septic tank, all placed on the gorgeous level meadow areas ready for your new home or fantastic camp-out area. A seasonal water run off / dry creek bed winds through the property that is studded with pretty oak trees, some manzanita and digger pines. This secluded gem is located near the Historic Gold Rush town of Cherokee. Views from the property consist of Meadow, Mountain, and possible lake views from the eastern parcel. The history is simply amazing. The area that is now Cherokee was once populated by the Maidu. Around 1818, Spanish explorers found gold on Cherokee's south side near Table Mountain. In 1849 Cherokee came from Oklahoma. Thomas Edison owned one of the mines which sprung up in the area, and he saw to it that the mines were electrified to ease the work. The town prospered during the mining period, and Butte County's first homes with running water were built in Cherokee. In 1880 President Rutherford B. Hayes, his wife Lucy, Civil War General William T. Sherman and General John Bidwell came to visit Cherokee's famous hydraulic gold mine. In the 1890s, the gold mines were sold off because of operational costs. At its boomtime, the town had a population in the thousands.
